Who we are
Study Six LLC ("Study Six", "we", "us") places international students at private high schools in the United States, matches them with host families and supports them during their stay. We also help American students find study abroad programs. Study Six LLC is registered in New Hampshire, USA.
We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions, email us at info@studysix.com.
Information we collect
We collect information you give us through our website, our online forms, email, phone and video calls. Depending on how you work with us, this can include:
- Enquiries: your name, email address, location and your message.
- Student applications and profiles: the student's name, date of birth, gender, nationality, contact details, passport copy, school grades and transcripts, school and program preferences, interests, photo, dietary needs and any medical conditions or allergies you choose to tell us about; the parent or guardian's name and contact details; and details of any education agent you work with.
- Host family applications and onboarding: names and contact details of the host parents, your address, details of everyone in the household (including children's names and dates of birth), pets, smoking and firearms information, photos of your family and home, information needed for background checks on adults in the home, bank details for stipend payments, and your signature on the host agreement.
- During a placement: monthly check-ins about the student's progress and wellbeing, travel requests, and notes of our conversations with students, parents, hosts and schools.
- Payments: the payer's name, email address, the amount and what it is for. Card payments are processed securely by our payment provider; we never see or store full card numbers.
- Booking a call: your name, email address and the time you choose, through Google Calendar.
- Study abroad enquiries: the parent's and student's names and contact details, the student's date of birth, grade, school, state, language level and program preferences.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- answer enquiries and talk to you about our programs;
- assess applications, place students at partner schools and help with the Form I-20, visa and travel arrangements;
- recruit, screen, train and pay host families, and match students with suitable hosts;
- look after students' welfare during their stay, including monthly check-ins and emergency support;
- enroll students in medical insurance;
- take payments and keep financial records;
- meet our legal, safeguarding, tax and insurance obligations.
We do this because it is needed to provide the service you have asked for, because we have a legitimate interest in running and improving our programs safely, because the law requires it, or because you have given your consent (for example, to receive information about study abroad programs, or to share medical information so we can keep a student safe). You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us.
Who we share it with
We only share information where it is needed for the placement or required by law. This can include:
- Partner schools, including the school officials who issue the Form I-20 and manage the student's immigration record.
- Host families and parents: host families receive relevant information about the student they will host, and parents receive a profile of the proposed host family (without its exact address) so they can approve the match.
- Our insurance provider, to enroll students in medical insurance and handle claims.
- Education agents who referred a student to us.
- Background screening providers and, where a partner school requires it, the school's diocese, to check adults in a host home.
- Service providers who help us run Study Six, such as our form, database, email, file storage, scheduling, automation, document and payment providers, and our website host. They may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, such as immigration or law enforcement agencies or emergency services, when the law requires it or someone's safety is at risk.
We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
International transfers
We work across the United States, the United Kingdom and the countries our students come from, and our service providers mostly store data in the United States. When personal information from the UK or the European Economic Area is transferred to the US, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension.
How long we keep it
We keep information for as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it for. For students and host families, that means for the length of the placement and then for as long as we need to keep records for legal, tax, insurance and safeguarding reasons. Enquiries that don't lead to a placement are deleted once they are no longer needed.
Students under 18
Most of our students are aged 14 to 18. We collect students' information with the involvement of their parent or guardian, who can exercise the rights below on their child's behalf.
Keeping your information safe
We use reputable service providers, limit access to the people who need it, and take care when sharing information. No system is completely secure, so please tell us straight away if you think your information has been put at risk.
Cookies and our website
Our website is hosted by Wix, which sets a small number of cookies needed for the site to work and collects basic statistics about how the site is used. We don't use advertising cookies.
Our forms are provided by Jotform and may set cookies needed for the forms to work. School video tours are provided by YouTube and only load when you press play. Our fonts are provided by Google Fonts.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to have it transferred to you or someone else, and to withdraw consent. Email info@studysix.com and we will respond within the time the law allows.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority; in the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
